T receiver home theater without surround sound OK set of speakers?

My current configuration is a stereo receiver years two large land-20 speakers. The speakers are big, fat and ugly, but I like to put a lot of bass. The death receptor, and I want to go to a 7.1 receiver (perhaps Onkyo 604) if you want surround sound in the future. My question is, television and music its well even on a HT receiver, if you do not have a subwoofer, central and satellite speakers connected to it? Could two floor speakers receiver gets enough bass without sub? Would TV dialogue without losing a center channel? I know this is not surround sound, but I'm not sure I want all the extra speakers and son to run my program.

There is nothing wrong with using only two speakers for sound and even if I have 5 speakers, I do not use my money (is not even connected), my main speakers are quite low. Most receivers have a sub on or off in the options menu. By connecting the sources (DVD, etc. ..) to use all analog connections. If you use a receiver input try digital mode by default to 5.1 and lost any kind of dialogue. With analog, will be automatically in stereo.
